Dillon advanced undefeated through the first rounds of the 8U Darlings tournament on Sunday to face Darlington on Monday night. Dillon lead 2-1 after the first inning, scoring two runs on three hits with two left on base. Darlington scored on a solo home run in the first inning. Both Dillon and Darlington had two hits in the second but each left two runners on base without scoring and neither could score in the third. Dillon went on to claim a 5-2 win to advance.
In the elimination bracket, Aynor defeated Seneca 15-4 and Jefferson defeated Lower Lexington 8-5 to advance.
On Tuesday, Dillon faced Aynor and lead 9-5 after four innings with Aynor getting three runs on five hits in the bottom of the fourth. Dillon’s Averi Lovell hit one to the left for a double in the top of the fifth and Raven Locklear hit one to left for a triple and one RBI. Jena Stutler followed with a home run that also scored Locklear to put Dillon up 12-5. Nyla Mitchell also doubled in the inning.
Aynor managed to score once in the bottom of the fifth with Kamryn Rabon hitting a grounder to third and reaching first safely. With two outs, Aynor hit one to third to score the runner for the final score of 12-6.
In Tuesday’s elimination bracket game, Darlington defeated Jefferson 18-2 to advance to Wednesday’s championship game. In the final inning, Dillon’s Lovell caught a line drive fly and turned a double, and the third baseman picked off another Aynor runner for out three to allow Dillon to claim the title with a 9-3 win.
Dillon’s Darlings will now travel for the 2014 Dixie Darlings World Series in Bay St. Louis in Mississippi. Opening ceremonies will be held Friday, July 25, with the tournament scheduled to begin on Saturday, July 26, through Wednesday, July 30.
Jefferson received the Sportsmanship Award for the Darlings division.

In Monday’s elimination games, Dillon fell 4-1 to Colleton County and Westminster edged Midland Valley 1-0 to advance.
On Tuesday, Turbeville defeated Westminster 5-4 to remain undefeated in the tournament, while in the elimination bracket, Latta faced Colleton County. The Latta Angels led 8-4 in the fifth, but Colleton received a walk to bump the final score to 8-5.
Latta faced Turbeville on Wednesday morning for the state title, with Latta 6-1 after two innings. Turbeville scored three runs with five hits in the bottom of the second with three runners left on base.
In the top of the third, Latta’s #11 hit a grounder by second to reach base, but #7 hit a grounder to the short stop who fielded it for a double play. The next batter struck out to end the inning.
Turbeville hit a grounder that scored another runner, and bunted safely to make it all the way to second. Turbeville picked up two runs off two hits in the top of the fourth, and went on to an 11-1 win to claim the state title.
Turbeville will advance to the 2014 Dixie Angels World Series, while Latta finished as the South Carolina state runner-up.
Midland Valley received the Sportsmanship Award for the Angels division.
