Officer Malcolm Gerald was honored by the Dillon County Council with a resolution honoring his 35 years of service in law enforcement.
Councilman T.F. “Buzzy” Finklea said he felt that Malcolm had led a career worthy of honor. He and Councilman Archie Scott both had the opportunity to work with Gerald as deputies on the Dillon County Sheriff’s Office.
Chairman Andrew Graves said that Gerald should be especially commended for not having missed a day of work between the two departments he has worked for during his career.
The resolution signed reads as follows:
RESOLUTION BY DILLON COUNTY COUNCIL IN HONOR OF THE
DEDICATED SERVICE OF POLICE OFFICER
MALCOLM GERALD TO THE TOWN OF LATTA AND DILLON COUNTY
WHEREAS, Malcolm Gerald has nearly 35 years of honorable, distinguished and dedicated service in law enforcement;
WHEREAS, Malcolm Gerald is a 1971 graduate of Latta High School and earned his Associate’s Degree from Florence-Darlington Technical College in Criminal Justice;
WHEREAS, Malcolm Gerald served in the Vietnam Conflict from 1971 to 1974 in the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne;
WHEREAS, Malcolm Gerald joined the Latta Police Department on February 25, 1980 and held all ranks in the department and served as chief of the Latta Police Department for eight years from March 11, 1988 through 1997;
WHEREAS, Malcolm Gerald was employed by the Dillon County Sheriff’s Office from April 10, 1997 through June 20, 1999;
WHEREAS, Malcolm Gerald returned to the Latta Police Department on June 21, 1999 as a sergeant and served on the Latta Police Department until May 6, 2014;
WHEREAS, during his service as a law enforcement officer, Malcolm Gerald did not miss a day of work between the two departments.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by Dillon County Council that Dillon County Council issues this proclamation and resolution in honor of Malcolm Gerald and his nearly 35 years of honorable, distinguished and dedicated service to law enforcement in Dillon County and in recognition of his many contributions to the Nation, the State, and Dillon County.
