On Tuesday, June 3, Dillon’s Jamonte RaQuan McGill signed on to play football at Methodist College in Fayetteville.

McGill played nose guard and defensive end for the Wildcats during his high school career. He was named All State Defensive Line and started two years on two championship teams.

McGill has been playing football since he was old enough for recreation teams, and is also a track and field athlete and participated in the 2014 Lower State meet in the discus and shot put events. He also plays the drums.

Methodist College “is just the right fit,” he said. “Not too big or too small.” He said he plans to study psychology.

He credited his family for getting him into sports and his coaches for their support.

“My coaches taught me discipline and good work ethics,” he said.

“He has been a very good four-year player,” Coach Kevin Roberts said. “He is a real good kid.”

Coach Zack Hayes and all the Dillon coaches said they wished he had another year with the Wildcats.

“He’s a hard worker and he enjoys playing,” Coach Gerald Reeves said. “He never got tired. Centers always hated playing against him. He never took a play off.”

McGill’s family was in attendance for the singing, including his mother, Natasha McGill, and grandparents Robert and Althea McGill, and his aunt and uncle, Shatina and Phillip Lester.

“I am very proud of my grandson and wish him the best,” Althea McGill said.

Natasha McGill said she was also very proud of her son.

“He has always had good grades and never been in trouble,” she said. “He always pursues his goals and nothing stands in his way. He loves football and Methodist will be a good school for him.”
