Elizabeth Cottingham Anderson

Elizabeth Cottingham Anderson, 65, of Columbia, passed away on Tuesday, May 6, at Lexington Memorial Hospital, after a short battle with cancer.

The daughter of the late Elizabeth F. and John C. Cottingham, Beth was born on April 19, 1949, in Dillon, SC.  She is a graduate of Dillon High School and the University of South Carolina, where she obtained a Masters Degree in Mathematics in 1975.  She and Bob Anderson were married on August 7, 1971.

Beth taught mathematics at USC, worked as a computer programmer at SCE&G, and after raising her children, taught mathematics in several Columbia area middle and high schools.

She was an accomplished pianist, often playing at nursing homes, community events, and church functions in the greater Columbia area.

Beth was an active member of Windsor United Methodist Church for 36 years.  She routinely volunteered her time to care for ailing friends, neighbors, and members of the community.

Beth is survived by her loving husband Bob; her children and their spouses: Robert J. Anderson (Carly) of Los Angeles; Laura E. Anderson (Julien Moulin) of Taipei, Taiwan; Kathryn A. Westurn (Tyler) of Goose Creek, SC; and grandchildren Tucker Westurn and Lydia Anderson.  She is also survived by siblings Richard Cottingham (Nancy), Charles Cottingham, Jennie DuBose (David), and Steve Cottingham (Judy).

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation in memory of Elizabeth Anderson, 383 Main Ave, 5th Floor, Norwalk, CT 06851.

Family visitation will take place Thursday, May 8, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Kornegay & Moseley Funeral Home, 4645 Hard Scrabble Rd., Columbia, SC 29229.

A memorial service in celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 9, at Windsor United Methodist Church, 9500 Windsor Lake Blvd., Columbia, SC 20223, with Rev. Stephan Gaither officiating.
