Latta School Board Holds Monthly Meeting

(Minutes submitted are unofficial until approved at the next month’s regular monthly meeting.)

The Latta School Board of Trustees met for the regular monthly meeting Tuesday, April 8, 2014 in the District Administrative Conference Room.
Trustees present were Linda James, Betty Jo Johnson, Kenneth Kitts, and Eddie Watson. Kyle Berry, Edward Bethea and Janice Boatwright were absent.
Betty Jo Johnson welcomed all present, and Dr. Kirby opened with prayer.
There being no corrections or additions to the March 11, 2014, Chair Johnson ruled that they stand approved.
Dr. Kirby updated the Board on the decision of the County Board to forgive five school days and make up two school days missed due to weather. March 21, 2014 was used as the first make-up day and June 2, 2014 will be used as the second make-up day.
Donna Taylor presented the status report for February on the General Fund budget.
Esther Rogers gave an update on the District Strategic Plan.
A motion to approve the 2014-2015 Annual Update to the District Strategic Plan was made by Eddie Watson and seconded by Kenneth Kitts. Vote was unanimous.
Robert McIntyre presented the 135th Day Report.
George Liebenrood gave an update on the activities and programs at the Latta Middle School.
Dollie Morrell gave an update on the Montessori program.
Phyllis Hyatt gave a presentation on how Montessori philosophy differs from the traditional way of learning.
Debra Morris gave an update and shared her vision of the Latta Elementary School for the 2014-2015 school year.
Dr. Kirby reviewed the 2014-2015 priority recommendations from the Latta District Improvement Team.
Larry Legette gave an update on the school facilities.
