Lady Dragons Down Lady Warriors 11-2

The Lady Dragons of Marlboro Academy defeated the Lady Warriors of Dillon Christian School 11-2 on Tuesday night in Dillon. The game was called in the sixth inning due to an unexpected spring rain shower.

The Warriors continue to beat themselves up with errors, allowing seven runs scored from seven errors. A low at bat production with three hits produced only two Warrior runs as the Dragons added eight hits to combine with the Warrior errors for 11 runs.

Jenna Ridge made it to base on a walk and stole second base and made it to third base on a fielding error. Nadia Walters lined a hit to left field to bring Ridge home and put the Dragons up 1-0 in the first. The Dragons added four runs in the top of the second inning on two hits, two errors, a fielder’s choice hit, and a walked batter.

The Warrior batters went three up and out and trailed 5-0 after two. The third inning was a three up and out for both sides but the Dragons added four runs on three fielding errors, two hits, and a runner to base on a hit by a pitch to go up 9-0 in the top of the fourth.

Madison King lead off in the bottom of the fourth with a double but got caught off base for the out. Sara Bass made it to base on a hit and was moved to second by Emilie Martin who got to base on the only Dragon error. Sarah Fitzgibbon lined a deep drive to left centerfield for a double to score Bass and Martin but the Warrior rally ended there with the Dragons out front 9-2.

The fifth inning closed with neither side getting to base and the Dragons added two runs in the top of the sixth. The game was called in the bottom of the sixth due to rain, giving the Dragons the 11-2 win.

On the mound for the Dragons, Raelyn Seabolt posted three strikeouts with no walked batters and allowed three hits with two runs scored for the win.

On the mound for the Warriors, Jamie Carpenter posted five strikeouts with four walked batters and one batter to base on a hit by a pitch and allowed eight hits with 11 runs scored for the loss.

At bat for the Dragons, Nadia Walters was 2-for-4 with a RBI and a stolen base; Jenna Ridge was 1-for-3 with a three RBI error and two stolen bases; Elise Sanders was 1-for-3 with a double and a RBI; Jaycee Goldberg was 1-for-3 with a RBI and made it to base on a hit by a pitch; Mary Goldberg was 1-for-3 with a walk; Betsy Covington was 1-for-3 with a walk; Lindsay Hunter was 1-for-4 with a RBI; and Raelyn Seabolt made it to base on two errors and had two fielder’s choice hits with a RBI.

At bat for the Warriors, Sarah Fitzgibbon was 1-for-2 with a double and two RBI; Madison King was 1-for-2 with a double; Sara Bass was 1-for-2; and Emilie Martin made it to base on an error.

The Warriors were scheduled to be at home on Wednesday with a make-up game with Carolina Academy and will play today in Tatum just outside of Bennettsville for a 5:00 p.m. game with Marlboro Academy.
