Lake View’s Lady Gators Earn Wins Over Marion, Green Sea

Lake View’s Lady Wild Gators earned a 20-4 win over Marion and an 8-4 win over Green Sea Floyds in varsity softball action on the road last week.

The Lady Gators traveled to Marion on Monday, April 14, and earned a 20-4 win over the Class 2A Swamp Foxes in seven innings. Lake View scored five runs in the first, four in the second, two in the third, and one in the fourth before bringing in eight runners in the seventh to cap the win.

Marissa Tyndall earned the win on the mound for the Gators, pitching all seven innings and striking out nine with eight hits and two earned runs. Marion’s Pressley Spivey took the loss, pitching 4.5 innings for 15 hits, two walks, and 13 earned runs.

At bat for Lake View, Amber Locklear went 4-for-5 with four RBI; Ashley Rogers went 3-for-4 with two RBI; and Madison Greene went 3-for-5 with one RBI.

Marion’s leading hitters were Anna Johnson, 3-for-4, and Madison Todd, 2-for-3.

On Tuesday, April 15, the Lady Gators traveled to Green Sea Floyds for an 8-4 win over the Lady Trojans.

The Lady Gators trailed 4-0 heading into the fifth inning, where Logan Spivey lead off with a home run. Madison Greene walked and Morgan Herlong ground out, but Marissa Tyndall singled up the middle to get two runners on base. Kayce Wong hit a double to score them both and put the score at 4-3. Ally Spivey singled up the middle, and Madison Matthews followed with a sacrifice bunt to score Wong and tie the game at 4-4.

Lake View held the Trojans off for the rest of the game and picked up three more runs in the sixth and one in the seventh to seal the win at 8-4.

Marissa Tyndall earned the win in relief on the mound, pitching four innings for one hit and one out. Morgan Herlong started for the Gators, pitching three innings with four hits, four runs, two earned runs, and one hit by pitch. Green Sea scored all four of their runs in the third inning.

Paige McDaniels took the loss for Green Sea Floyds, pitching one inning for one hit, two walks, and three runs. Harley Berry started for the Trojans, pitching five innings for seven hits, one walk, four runs, three earned runs, and one hit-by-pitch.

With the wins, Lake View improved to 11-5 overall and 3-3 in Region 8-A. Lake View is currently third in the region with Latta in second at 5-2. Johnsonville has already claimed the region title, and Green Sea-Floyds is just ahead of Hannah-Pamplico for fourth place.

Lake View will host Hannah-Pamplico tonight at 5:30 p.m. and will be at Latta on Friday at 5:30 p.m. If Lake View wins both games, they could clinch a second place finish in the region. Make plans to attend to support our local teams!

The Lady Gators will wrap up the regular season on Monday, April 28, when they host Mullins at 6:00 p.m. in a non-region game.
