Callahan Returns to SC with Greenville Drive

Jamie Callahan

Former Dillon Wildcat Jamie Callahan is continuing his baseball career in South Carolina.

Callahan, a former Wildcat standout, was drafted by the Boston Red Sox as a second-round selection in 2012. He spent some time at the rookie level before pitching for the Class A Lowell Spinners, earning a 5-1 record with 54 strikeouts and a 3.92 ERA. He also earned honors twice as the New York Penn League’s Pitcher of the Week.

Now Callahan is playing for the Greenville Drive in the South Atlantic League. This is Callahan’s third minor league season but his first full season. Callahan says he’s been preparing for the challenges ahead, and his hard work is paying off. His fastball topped out at 96 mph during spring training, and he added 10 pounds in the offseason.

Callahan said he was very excited about playing closer to home, and hopes to see much more of his family and friends.

On Thursday, April 10, the Drive earned a 10-inning 7-6 win over the Kannapolis Intimidators. Callahan was the starting pitcher, tying the franchise single-game record with 11 strikeouts in five innings on the mound. He allowed five hits, two earned runs, and one walk.

The Greenville Drive was scheduled to host Charleston on Wednesday and be away at Savannah for the rest of the week. The Drive currently holds a 7-5 record.
