Latta’s Lady Vikings Shut Out Marion, Earn Wins Over Aynor, Johnsonville

Latta’s Lady Vikings picked up a string of victories this week with two shut-out wins over Marion in a double header on Wednesday, a 15-10 win over Aynor on Thursday, and a 5-3 win over Johnsonville on Tuesday night in softball action.

The Lady Vikings traveled to Marion on Wednesday, April 2, and picked up two shut out wins over the Swamp Foxes in the double header.

In game one, the Vikings earned a 16-0 win in three innings. Dori Webster earned the win on the mound, pitching all three innings for a no-hitter with two walks and three outs.

At bat, Madison Owens went 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored; Genesis Anderson went 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored; Camryn Sawyer went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored; Kyra Grant went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run; and Dori Webster went 2-for-2 with two RBI.

In game two, Latta picked up a 14-0 win in five innings. Anna Rogers earned the win on the mound, pitching three innings for six outs, one walk, and no hits.

At bat, Kaleigh Caulder went 4-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored; Mikenzi Caniglia went 3-for-4 with one run scored; Madison Owens went 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run; Macy Hyatt went 2-for-3 with one RBI and two runs scored; Casey Prescott went 1-for-1 with three RBI and three runs scored; and Dori Webster went 1-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored.

On Thursday, Latta hosted Aynor for a 15-10 win over the Blue Jackets. Anna Rogers picked up the win, pitching all seven innings for 10 hits, seven earned runs, six walks, and eight outs.

At bat for the Vikings, Madison Owens went 4-for-4 with a triple, three RBI, and four runs scored; Cora Owens went 4-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run; Dori Webster went 3-for-5 with three RBI and one run; Kaleigh Caulder went 3-for-5 with one RBI and three runs scored; Mikenzi Caniglia went 2-for-3 with two runs scored; and Macy Hyatt went 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Monday’s scheduled game against Carver’s Bay was rained out, but Latta was back in action on Tuesday to host region rival Johnsonville, earning a 5-3 win over the Lady Flashes.

Both teams added two runs in the third inning, and Latta added two more in the bottom of the fourth to take a 4-2 lead. The Flashes brought in a runner in the top of the sixth to trail 4-3, but Latta scored again in the bottom of the inning for the 5-3 win.

Anna Rogers earned the win on the mound, pitching all seven innings for five hits, three runs, and six walks, striking out nine. Johnsonville’s Savanna Young took the loss, pitching six innings for 10 hits, five runs, two walks, and one out.

At bat for Latta, Camryn Sawyer went 3-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored; Cora Owens went 2-for-3 with one run scored; and Dori Webster went 1-for-3 with two RBI. The Lady Vikings had 10 hits in the win.

Johnsonville was led by Brittany Warren, 2-for-4. Jada Parsons and Maelyn Thompson each went 1-for-3, and Kayla Ard went 1-for-1 with one RBI.

With the wins, Latta improved to 13-4 overall and 4-2 in Region 8-A, while Johnsonville slipped to 8-3 overall and 5-1 in the region.

Latta is set to host Green Sea-Floyds this Friday at 5:30 p.m., and will return to action on Tuesday, April 22 at Aynor.
