Lady Warriors Fall 8-2,13-2 to Cavaliers

The Dillon Christian School Lady Warriors traveled to Bishopville on Friday to play the Robert E. Lee Lady Cavaliers in a double header non-region softball match-up. The Cavaliers took game one 8-2 and jumped out 9-0 in the first inning of game two on some Warrior errors and finished the game with a 13-2 win.

In game one the Cavaliers took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. The Warriors tied the score at 1-1 in the top of the second but the Cavaliers moved back out front 2-1 in the bottom half of the inning and moved ahead 3-1 in the third.

The Warriors closed at 3-2 in the top of the fourth inning but three errors in the bottom of the fourth allowed five runs for the Cavaliers to put them up 8-2 and the game would end with this score.

On the mound for the Cavaliers, Kate Manuel posted six strikeouts, had six walked batters and one batter to base on a hit by a pitch, and gave up three hits and two runs scored for the win.

For the Warriors, Jamie Carpenter had one strikeout, three walked batters, and two batters to base on hit by a pitch, and allowed four hits and eight runs scored, four unearned.

At bat for the Cavaliers, Bailey Watts was 1-for-3 with a fielder’s choice RBI; Ravin Griffin was 1-for-3 with a double and a RBI; Jenna Gainey was 1-for-2 with a RBI; Kelsey Watford was 1-for-2; and Maegan Watson got a RBI on an error.

For the Warriors, Emilie Martin was 1-for-3; Ansley Hamer was 1-for-1 with a stolen base; Katie Tyner was 1-for-1 with a RBI; Madison King, Greta Seay, Sarah Fitzgibbon, and Sara Bass made it to base on walks; and Samantha Carpenter made it to base on a walk and a hit by a pitch and had a stolen base.

In game two, the Warriors found themselves in a hole due to a mass of errors and could not come back. What should have been an easy three up and out resulted in nine runs scored in the first inning. Both teams scored two runs each in the second and the Cavaliers added two runs in the fourth inning and held on to the 13-2 win.

On the mound for the Cavaliers, Ravin Griffin posted five strikeouts with four walked batters and allowed two hits and two runs scored for the win.

For the Warriors, Sarah Fitzgibbon walked seven batters and gave up six hits with 13 runs scored with seven runs scored on errors.

At bat for the Cavaliers, Ravin Griffin was 2-for-4 with a triple and four RBI; Bailey Nix was 2-for-3 with a double and a RBI; Kelsey Watford was 1-for-3 with a triple and two RBI; and Sidney Week was 1-for-2, also getting to base on a walk.

For the Warriors, Ansley Hamer was 1-for-2; Ravin Norris was 1-for-1; Leah Stephens had a fielder’s choice hit and made it to base on a walk; and Greta Seay, Hannah Walters, and Samantha Carpenter made it to base on walks.

The Warriors were scheduled to play Carolina Academy in Dillon on Monday and to travel today to Mullins to play Pee Dee Academy at 5:00 p.m., weather permitting. The Warriors will be in Lumberton on Thursday for a 5:00 p.m. game with Antioch Christian.
