Warriors Fall to Tornadoes

The Dillon Christian School Warriors fell 23-2 and 11-0 to the Fairmont Golden Tornadoes in varsity baseball action last week.

The Warriors hosted Fairmont on Thursday, February 27, for a 23-2 loss. Fairmont took a 7-0 lead in the first inning and added four runs in the top of the third to lead 11-0. The Warriors got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the inning, but Fairmont broke loose for 12 runs in the top of the fourth to end the game.

Julius Caulder picked up the win on the mound for Fairmont and Michael Simmons pitched an inning of relief. Caulder faced 13 batters and struck out six, allowing two hits, two runs, and a walk. Simmons struck out all three batters he faced.

The Warriors struck out two with 11 walks and two hit by pitch.

Cole Lovin led Fairmont at bat, going 3-for-3 with two RBI. Cody McKnight went 2-for-2 with a RBI; Alec Brewington went 2-for-3 with a triple and a double; Chance Leggett went 2-for-4 with four RBI, three runs scored, and a double; Edward Parker was 1-for-1 with a RBI and a double; Jacoby Oxendine went 1-for-2; Ricky Grissett went 1-for-1 with two RBI and a double; Tyler Musslewhite went 1-for-3; Trey Clewis went 1-for-1; and Julius Caulder and Ryan Mayers each picked up a RBI.

Fairmont had 14 hits and one error in the win, while the Warriors were held to just two hits with three errors.

On Friday, the Warriors traveled to Fairmont and were shut out 11-0 by the Golden Tornadoes in four innings. Fairmont took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first and added eight runs in the second for the win.

Alec Brewington got the win on the mound for Fairmont, striking out six, walking two, and allowing just one hit. The Warriors struck out two and walked five.

Simmons led Fairmont at bat, going 3-for-3 with a RBI; Leggett went 1-for-2; Lovin went 1-for-3; Mayers went 1-for-3 with two RBI with a double; Caulder went 1-for-3 with two RBI; Musslewhite went 1-for-1 with a triple; and Gage Hardin went 1-for-1 with two RBI. Fairmont had a total of nine hits in the win.

The Warriors start the season 0-2 but will have a chance to improve tonight when they host Carolina Academy at 4:00 p.m. On Friday, the Warriors will travel to Carolina Academy for varsity baseball action at 6:30 p.m.
