Lady Wildcats Defeat Auctioneers 64-45

Dillon’s Lady Wildcats held onto the second place spot in the state in Class 2A girls basketball as they defeated Mullins 64-45 on Tuesday night at home in Dillon.

The Lady Wildcats took a 15-3 lead over the Auctioneers in the first quarter and went 18-14 in the second for a 33-17 lead at the half. After Dillon went 10-8 in the third quarter, Mullins attempted to rally in the fourth, but the Wildcats held them off 21-20 to secure the win.

Yolanda Campbell scored a game-high 18 points and Tyshanna Lester added 15 in the win. Campbell also picked up 14 rebounds as the Wildcats grabbed 49 total. Khamele Manning added 10, and Brianna Lee, Da’Kerhia Samuel, and Tejah Breeden each earned six points. Cali McRae added one point for Dillon in the win.

“Our girls are aggressive,” Dillon head coach Shawn Johnson said. “We are blessed to be 19-0.”

He added that the Lady Wildcats have been working hard in practice and are buying into what the coaches are doing.

“I am blessed to have them.”

Jaleah Lesane scored 15 points to lead Mullins in the effort and Brittani McDonald added 13. Cassie Phillips earned five points; Kendra Legette and Brianna Brantley each scored four; and Zaakirah Williams and Zakiya Williams each earned two points for the Lady Auctioneers.

Dillon remains undefeated at 19-0 overall and 6-0 in the region, while Mullins slips to 12-3 and 4-1.

The Lady Wildcats held on to the number two spot in Class 2A girls basketball in the latest South Carolina Basketball Coaches Association polls. Bishop England held on to the top spot, with Kingstree in third and Mullins in fourth. Andrew Jackson, Columbia, Fairfield Central, Ninety Six, and Pendleton followed, with Lake City rounding out the list in tenth place.

Dillon will be on the road for the rest of the regular season, traveling to Marion on Friday night at 6:00 p.m. and to Aynor on Saturday, February 8, at 3:00 p.m. for a makeup game against the Blue Jackets.

Next week, Dillon will be at Loris on Monday, February 10, and at Waccamaw on Wednesday, February 12, to wrap up the regular season. The first round of Class 2A girls basketball playoffs will begin on Tuesday, February 18.
