Warriors Battle Titans, Defeat Stallions

The Dillon Christian School Boys fell by just one point to the visiting Trinity-Byrnes Titans at 58-57 on Friday night but earned a 68-42 win over Williamsburg in Saturday’s makeup game in SCISA boys basketball action.

The Titans took a 12-9 lead in the first quarter on Friday night and went 14-12 over the Warriors in the second to lead 26-21 at the half. The Warriors began to rally in the second quarter, edging ahead 18-17 in the third to trail 43-39 heading into the fourth. Dillon Christian pushed hard, outscoring Trinity-Byrnes 18-15, but it was still one point shy of tying the game, allowing the Titans to retain a 58-57 win.

Tyler Davis led the Warriors in the effort, earning 23 points with 11 rebounds and three assists. Matthew Price added 10 points and picked up 10 defensive rebounds with two assists and a steal; Will Brown earned nine points with one offensive rebound and three assists; Luke Price scored seven points with four rebounds and a steal; Mark Minges scored six points with six rebounds, two assists and a block; Matt Jordan scored two points with three rebounds and a steal; and Jim Carr made one steal for the Warriors.

On Saturday, the Warriors hosted Williamsburg Academy to make up Tuesday’s postponed game. The Warriors took a 16-14 lead to start and went 21-11 in the second quarter for a 37-25 lead at the half. Dillon Christian outscored the Stallions 11-8 in the third and sealed the win with a 20-9 fourth quarter.

Tyler Davis scored a game-high 33 points with 12 rebounds, eight blocks, one assist, and a steal. Matt Jordan scored 12 points with eight rebounds; Will Brown scored nine points with 10 assists, one defensive rebound, one steal, and one block; Mark Minges scored eight with eight rebounds, three assists, three steals, and two blocks; Matthew Price scored two with eight defensive rebounds and four assists; and Luke Price added two points with six defensive rebounds, three assists, three steals, and a block.

The Warriors are now 8-5 overall and 6-5 in SCISA Region 4-2A.

Dillon Christian was scheduled to host North Myrtle Beach Christian on Monday night in a non-conference game, and the Warriors will be away tonight at Carolina Academy and away on Friday at The King’s Academy.

The Warriors will wrap up the regular season on Tuesday, February 11, when they are scheduled to host Pee Dee Academy with girls and boys junior varsity action beginning at 4 p.m. and varsity action following. Make plans to attend to support our local teams!
