The Latta Vikings improved to 3-0 in region play on Tuesday night as they defeated the Hannah-Pamplico Raiders 90-72 in boys varsity basketball.

Latta took a 22-12 lead in the first quarter, but the Raiders rallied to go 25-18 in the second to trail 40-37 at the half. The Vikings widened the lead in the third, outscoring the Raiders 27-20, and sealed the win with a 23-15 fourth quarter.

Kartilus McFadden led the Vikings in the win with a game-high 27 points, and Tyrell Sabb and R.J. McClam each added 18 in the win. Jordan Sims earned 14 points, Darren Pernell scored four, and Jordan Smith and Diez Mungro each added two.

Roy Ellis scored 25 points and Jerried Self added 22 to lead Hannah-Pamplico in the effort. Jordan Jenkins added 12 points, Tyshawn Washington scored six, and Brandon Williamson added five, with Jakar Beach scoring four for the Raiders.

Latta improved to 4-5 overall and 3-0 in Region 8-A. Hannah-Pamplico fell to 6-7 and 2-1 in the region.

No local team has yet cracked the South Carolina Basketball Coaches Association top 10 in Class A. Last year’s lower state champ, Whale Branch, remained at the top of the list this week with St. Joseph’s, Greenville Tech, Fox Creek, and Baptist Hill rounding out the top five.

The Vikings will travel to face Lake View on Friday night, and will be at Johnsonville on Tuesday, January 28. Game times are set for 6:00 p.m. The Wild Gators are winless so far this season, but the Johnsonville Flashes are 9-7 overall and 3-0 in the region, and will host Hannah-Pamplico on Friday.
