Lake View High School’s Morgan Herlong signed a letter of intent on Wednesday, November 13, to play softball for North Greenville University.

Morgan was a varsity starter since seventh grade. She has been playing softball since she was eight years old and played tball prior to that. She also played volleyball for the Wild Gators. She says her father, Lake View’s Head Baseball Coach Kip Herlong, influenced her the most.

Morgan says she learned to balance school and athletics, and after fielding offers from several schools, she chose North Greenville because it is a Christian based school where she can incorporate and balance her beliefs as well. She plans to major in Biology.

Coach Herlong said he was very proud of his daughter’s academic success.

“She is very responsible and happens to love softball,” he said. “Her mom has been very instrumental in her academics and her focus. We are all very blessed for her accomplishments.”

“We are thankful for the success and coaching of Brandy Huggins as well,” he added. “She has helped prepare Morgan for her future.”

Morgan’s mother, Liz Herlong, added that playing college softball has been a dream of Morgan’s since her youth. She said North Greenville would be a very good match for Morgan because of their focus on academics and Christian faith.

The Lake View coaching staff said that they were very proud of Morgan.

“She is a wonderful young lady who gives 100%,” said Head Softball Coach Brandy Huggins. “North Greenville is getting a great, well-rounded softball player in Morgan.”

The assistant coaching staff, including Coach James Huggins and Coach Marsha Rogers, added that she works year round and is a a great student athlete who sets a great example for her teammates, both young and old.

“North Greenville is getting a great team leader,” Rogers said. “She will be a great asset.”

Morgan’s parents, Liz and Kip Herlong, attended the signing, along with her brother, Kason Herlong; grandmothers Cynthia McIntyre and Ann Herlong; and Lake View High Principal Edison Arnette.
