There have been several vehicle break-ins in the area recently, and police are working diligently to help solve these crimes. The public is reminded, however, to take precautions to secure your vehicles and valuables.
Here are a few tips for thought:
—Do not leave anything visible in your vehicle. What you might think is worthless or common may be attractive to a thief.
—Do not leave pocketbooks, cell phones, GPS units, loose change or other valuables in your car when it is unattended.
—Lock your vehicles and secure the windows. Engage your car alarm if you have one.
—Park your car in well-lit locations, and when at home, park near a light.
If you see a break-in in progress, call 9-1-1 and take note of the following:
—The location of the break-in.
—A description of the suspect. The sex, race, age, height, weight, hair color and length, colors and style of clothing, identifying marks such as tattoos or piercings, etc. are all important parts of the description.
—The direction the thief flees in and a description of the vehicle he is in if he is not on foot.
Report any suspicious activity you see to law enforcement.
