City Receiving Compliments On Golf Course

Since the City of Dillon took over the golf course in June, overall the staff has received many compliments from golfers and non golfers, according to City Manager Glen Wagner.
“A lot of the comments received have been how much they appreciate the city stepping up to make sure quality of life is important.  As with any new program, you will get positive and negative feedback,” said Wagner.
While some things have been done to improve the course, Wagner says that really no drastic improvements have been made.
“What has been done as far as improvements took place in May and June when city staff spent several days cleaning up.  Cutting down dead or diseased trees, grinding old stumps, removing old pine straw that has been on the ground for years, cleaning the fence line along I-95 to allow course to be visible from interstate.  Just maintaining the course on a daily basis 7 days a week,” said Wagner.
Wagner said that for the month of June 2013,  the operating cost was $35,000.  The cost of the course to fertilize, aerate and top dress was $7500, which is a part of the $35k. As of July 25, there are 73 members that began paying the city on June 1, 2013. “New membership is important, and we are recruiting members each and every day,” said Wagner.  Since June 1, 2013 they have had 1935 rounds of golf, this does not include tournaments that have been played at the course. There have been four tournaments held in the past 2 months with over 300 players along with hosting the SC Junior Golf Association Pee Dee Chapter tournament that attracted 60 golfers from the age of 6 to 17.
