More Than 40 Couples Learn ‘The Art Of Marriage’

By Jamie Arnette
This past weekend at the Dillon Wellness Center, over 40 couples learned the art of marriage through a video driven curriculum entitled, “The Art of Marriage.”  The Art of Marriage consisted of six video sessions that were shown on Friday night and Saturday, which combined dramatic stories, real-life testimonies, expert interviews, humorous vignettes and other teaching methods to lay out God’s design for marriage in a fresh, engaging way.  Some of the expert guests included Voddie Baucham, Paul Tripp, Dennis Rainey, Crawford Loritts, Dave Harvey, Wayne Grudem, and Al Mohler.  It was an event designed to build-up couples without condemning them for past failures.  One of the benefits of the Art of Marriage experience was how the experts masterfully gave biblical principles to inspire couples to fulfill their God-designed purpose in marriage.

Each guest attending the event was provided a manual with projects to help them apply the principles taught in each session and to help them dive deeper.” The six session topics included: Love Happens (Purpose of Marriage); Love Fades (Drift to Isolation); Love Dances (Roles of Marriage); Love Interrupted (Communication); Love Sizzles (Romance & Sex);  and Love Always (Legacy).  Those attending were also given a DVD containing the video sessions to review at their convenience or share with others who may benefit from the experience.  Couples who attended the Art of Marriage indicated in a post-event survey that every married couple or anyone considering marriage should attend an Art of Marriage event.

The event was sponsored by First Baptist Church of Dillon, though several other churches supported and attended.  Two couples from the Bridge Church in Princeton, NC, Scott & Sherry Jennings and Rick & Beverly Weeks, were wonderful facilitators of the event.  The Jennings and Weeks have a marriage ministry called Intentionally Yours, and they provide marriage support on their website on www.intentionallyyours.org.
