Jeanette B. Braddy

 
Dillon – Jeanette Barrington Braddy, 83, died peacefully at the McLeod Hospice House in Florence, SC, Thursday, August 1, 2013. In lieu of services, a  private family gathering will be held. Kannaday Funeral Home in Dillon is assisting the family.
 
Ms. Braddy was born in New York City on August 30, 1929, the daughter of the late John Clyde and Ruby Honeycutt Barrington. She received both her Bachelor’s degree and Master’s in Education from the University of South Carolina.  She was a teacher in the Dillon County Schools for more than 20 years, greatly increasing educational opportunities for students in rural South Carolina. She was appointed by the Governor of South Carolina to serve on the Tri-County Mental Health Center for 13 years. She also served as Chair of the Lee Foundation, which supports special mental health projects. She was a long-time member of the St. Eugene and McLeod Hospital Auxiliaries. She served as a leader in both the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts.
 
She is survived by her son, John R. Braddy (Sandy) of Dillon, SC; daughters, Barri B. Burrus (Robert) of Nokomis, FL and Amy Barrington (Ed Ham) of Morrisville, NC; grandchildren, Jill B. McLeod (Will), David Braddy (Katie), Chloe Barrington-Ham, Caley Burrus, and Jennifer Bracey; sisters, Angela Holladay of Columbia, SC, Marjorie Pace (Bob) of Woodruff, SC, and Cynthia Harris (Mike) of Topsail Beach, NC; ten loving nieces and nephews; and faithful pet, Scooter.  She leaves a legacy of devotion to family. Her independence, creativity, humor and compassion will be greatly missed.
