District Four Teacher Of The Year Honored By The Schafer Foundation

The Schafer Foundation has honored Dillon County teachers by sponsoring District Teacher of the Year Kellyson Poe’s appearance at the South Carolina Teacher of the Year Celebration that was on May 1 in Columbia.
Kellyson Poe is a 4K-3rd grade school Counselor at Stewart Heights Elementary School and South Elementary School in Dillon.
She and great teachers from the approximately 80 other state school districts were honored at the event hosted by South Carolina Future Minds, the non-profit that organizes private support for the state’s public schools.
“The support of The Schafer Foundation underscores the importance of great teachers to all of us,” said Trip DuBard, SC Future Minds executive director. “We’re all proud of and grateful for teachers like Ms. Poe.”
The SC Teacher of the Year Celebration, an annual tradition for more than three decades, was held on May 1 at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center. The event brings together leaders of government, business and education to honor the best teachers from all 87 South Carolina school districts. At the evening’s end, Darleen Sutton was named the 2014 SC Teacher of the Year, and received use of a BMW X3 for the next year. (adv.)
