Marion’s Don Cribb to Take Over Baseball Program at Latta High

Latta High School recently announced that former Marion football coach Don Cribb would be taking over the Viking baseball program from departing coach Daniel Little.

Little announced earlier this year that he would be leaving Latta after his wife accepted a position at Woodruff Primary School. Little spent six seasons rebuilding the Viking baseball program and led them to their first state championship appearance since the 1960’s. Little was named Class A Coach of the Year and has taken a position as baseball coach at Landrum next year.

Cribb said he was excited for the opportunity to coach at Latta, where he will be head coach for the baseball program and an assistant football coach. Although he spent the last season coaching football for the Swamp Foxes, Cribb spent 27 seasons as head baseball coach for Marion before stepping down before the start of this season. He won 411 games and took Marion to the Class 3A state championship series in both 1991 and 1993.

The Vikings will have an experienced team to go along with an experienced coach, as Latta will only lose one player from their lower state championship team.

Latta’s athletic director Aaron Miles said he thinks Cribb will be a great asset to Latta’s athletic programs and looks forward to working with him.

Cribb said it will be hard to leave Marion after receiving so much support from the school and community over the years, but added that Latta was an excellent opportunity at the right time.
