The Latta Track team made a strong showing at the Region 8-A Championship meet in Johnsonville on Wednesday, April 24, with the Latta Girls finishing second in the region and 14 Vikings advancing to the Class A Lower State Meet.
Kierra Johnson, Jessica Evans, Brittany Burgess, Iyonna McKenzie, and Alexia Mcleod all placed first in individual events for All-Region. The girls took first place in the 1600 Meter Relay with a time of 4:19 and took second place in the 400 Meter Relay and 3200 Meter Relay.
Johnson took second in the 100/110 Hurdles and McKenzie, Burgess, and Evans took second, third and fourth place in the 100 Meter Dash. McLeod also finished fourth in the 400 Meter Run and Katie Williams took second in the 800 Meter Run.
McKenzie and Evans took first and second in the 200 Meter Dash with times of 26.52 and 26.53 respectively. The Lady Vikings also took first and second in the high jump with Burgess going 4’8” and Johnson going 4’4”.
In Boys Track, Latta took third place in the 3200 Meter Relay with the team of Anthony McCall, Davon Davis, Sam Sellers, Jeremiah Hayes, Nicolas Fincannon, and Jerodi Hill.
Hayes finished second in the 1600 Meter Run and first in the 3200 Meter with a PR time of 11:59 and All-Region. Sellers and Fincannon came back to finish third and fourth in the 2-Mile.
McCall also finished in second place in the 800 Meter Run.
Latta had 14 athletes who qualified for the lower state meet, including Davon Davis, Nick Fincannon, Jeremiah Hayes, Jerodi Hill, Anthony McCall, Sam Sellers, Brittany Burgess, Tamera Campbell, Jessica Evans, Kierra Johnson, Iyonna McKenzie, Zi’Donia Page, Rainey Powers, and Katie Williams.
The Class A Lower-State meet will be held at Whale Branch on Saturday, May 4.
