The Dillon Christian School Lady Warriors lost a non-region game 8-0 on Monday to the visiting Lady Titans from the Trinity/Byrnes School in seven innings.

The Titans victory was aided by 13 Warrior errors and some throwaways at the base. All eight Titan runs were unearned.

Heavy winds made fielding the ball difficult for both sides but seemed to affect the Warriors more. The Titans got runners to base in the top of the first inning on an error and a walk. Both base runners scored due to bad throws to give the Titans a 2-0 lead. Innings two and three were scoreless.

The Titans added a run in the fourth inning on four Warrior errors to go ahead 3-0. The Titans increased their lead to 5-0 off of one hit and three errors. Assisted by one hit, one walked batter, and two errors in the sixth inning, the Titan lead was upped to 7-0. The Titans got run number eight in the top of the seventh inning from a walk, error and a hit.

Both teams managed three base hits each but the Titans allowed no runners to base on errors and made no bad throws to the bases.

Coach Norm Norton, assisted by me and Danny Ellis, pushes the Lady Warriors daily in two to three hour practice sessions and they perform almost flawlessly. If one visited a Warrior practice session, they would wonder how the Warriors could be winless. Some fans say they are a practice team and not a game team. Others say they are chokers and still others have their reasons for the losses. I know that whatever the reasons for so many errors, bad throws, and lack of hitting, it is not due to the players just not trying their best.

On the mound for the Warriors, Jamie Carpenter went seven full innings, striking out nine batters, and allowing three hits and four walked batters for the loss. Carpenter did miss the mark at the plate that advanced runners to base as they got away from the catcher several times. Carpenter had great moments and some sad ones but she completed her second seven inning game of the season.

On the mound for the Titans, Logan Gibbs pitched seven innings, posting 15 strikeouts and six walked batters, allowing three hits and no runs scored for the win.

At bat for the Titans, Logan Gibbs was 1-for-4, getting to base on an error with a RBI; Whitney Kirby was 1-for-4, getting to base on an error and a walk with a RBI; Morgan Nance was 1-for-5 also getting to base twice on errors; Stephanie Herzog got to base twice on errors with a RBI; Laurel Edwards made it to base on an error and a walk; Courtney Alcorn made it to base on two errors with a RBI; Alysia Martin made it to base on three errors and a walk with a RBI; Bailey Goodson made it to base on two errors and Rosie Clanton made it to base on a walk.

At bat for the Warriors, Madison King was 1-for-3 also getting to base on a fielder’s choice hit; Jamie Carpenter was 1-for-3; Makalai Sweat was 1-for-4; Greta Seay made it to base on two walks adding a stolen base; Sarah Fitzgibbon, Katie Tyner, and Ansley Hamer made it to base on walks.

The Warriors will travel to Tatum on Thursday for a region game with Marlboro Academy at 5:00 p.m.
