Lady Warriors Fall 14-0 to Region Foe Carolina

By Craig Brown

The Dillon Christian School Lady Warriors traveled to Lake City Tuesday night going down 14-0 to the Carolina Academy Lady Bobcats.

The Bobcats lead in region 2-2A, one game in front of Marlboro Academy. The Bobcats have won nine state championships in the past 15 years, missing out the last three years, and want very much to get the title back. The Warriors edged the Bobcats out for a spot in post season play last year but the Bobcats showed no mercy this year, sweeping the series 12-0 and 14-0.

In Tuesday’s game, the Bobcats took a 5-0 lead in the first inning, adding three runs in the second to go ahead 8-0. Several mistakes by the Warriors in the third inning allowed four more runs to advance the Bobcat lead to 12-0. Two big hits in the fourth inning put the Bobcats up 14-0.

The Warriors could not get anything going in the fifth inning and the game was called on the mercy rule.
At bat for the Warriors, Lauren Lee was 1-for-2 and Jamie Carpenter, Sarah Fitzgibbon, and Katie Tyner made it to base on walks.

On defense the Warriors allowed 10 unearned runs. Sarah Fitzgibbon, Makalai Sweat and Ansley Hamer made some good defensive play with half of the put outs coming from Fitzgibbon and Sweat.

The Warriors return to play next week on Tuesday, April 16, at Pee Dee Academy with game time set for 5:30 p.m. Then on Thursday, the Warriors will be back at home to host Robert E. Lee Academy at 5:00 p.m.
