Lady Wildcats Shut Down Loris 6-1; Wildcats Win 5-3 in No-Hitter

The Dillon Wildcats shut down Loris on Tuesday night as the Lady Wildcats picked up a 6-1 win in a one-hitter game and the Wildcats pitched a no-hitter for a 5-3 win in baseball action.

The Lady Wildcats took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning and added one run each in the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth innings for the 6-1 win. Loris scored their only run in the top of the third.

Darby Hamer picked up the win on the mound, pitching seven innings for just one hit, one walk, and 10 outs. Alex Faircloth took the loss for Loris, pitching five innings for five runs, 10 hits, one walk, and three outs.

Tara Grimsley led Dillon at bat, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs. Shayna Covington went 2-for-3, Da’Kerhia Samuel went 2-for-3 with a double, and Rebecca Callahan went 2-for-4 with a triple and a RBI. Leah McMillan also went 1-for-1 for the Wildcats, who had 12 hits and two errors in the win.

Loris had one hit and three errors in the loss.

The Lady Wildcats remained at the top of Region 8-2A and at the top of the latest state softball coaches polls for Class 2A with Andrew Jackson, Crescent, Buford, and Barnwell once again rounding out the top five. Dillon is 14-1 overall, with their only loss coming from Marlboro County in the pre-season.

The Wildcats were scheduled to host Green Sea-Floyds on Wednesday night in a non-conference match, traveled to Waccamaw on Thursday, and will be at Lake View on Monday night for a double-header. Dillon is scheduled to be at Aynor on Tuesday, April 16, and will wrap up the regular season at home on Friday, April 19, when they are scheduled to host Marion at 6:30 p.m.

BASEBALL

The Dillon Wildcats earned a 5-3 win over Loris on Tuesday. Duncan Callahan picked up the win on the mound, striking out 11 and walking four, while Weston Bailey got the save. Neither Wildcat pitcher allowed a hit in the game.

Weston Bailey led Dillon at bat with two doubles. The Wildcats had five errors in the game.

The Wildcats now have an 8-2 record in the regular season with a 6-1 record in Region 8-2A. Waccamaw gave the Wildcats their only region loss of the season, a 6-5 eighth-inning heartbreaker on March 19.

Dillon was scheduled to be at Waccamaw on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. for another shot at the Warriors. On Tuesday, the Wildcats will be at Aynor and on Thursday, April 18, Dillon will be at Lake View for a double-header at 5:00 p.m. The Wildcats will be back home to close out the regular season against Marion on Friday, April 19.
