Wallace Is President-Elect Of SSHP

Caleb Robert Wallace, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas W. Wallace of Little Rock, South Carolina, was recently selected to serve as President-elect of the Student Society of Health-System Pharmacists (SSHP) at the Presbyterian College School of Pharmacy in Clinton, South Carolina.
The organization is the student chapter of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, which advocates for the practice of pharmacy in the health-system, hospital, and ambulatory care settings.  Wallace states, “pharmacists are often the most under-utilized health care professionals; our training allows us to do much more than simply dispensing prescriptions.  It didn’t take long after I started pharmacy school for me to realize that I want to do more with my training, so I can have a greater impact on the patients in the community which I will serve.  Pharmacists are the medication experts on the health care team, and I want to have an active role in determining the most appropriate medications and therapies for patients based on their histories and indications.”
After graduating from the Presbyterian College School of Pharmacy with a doctorate of pharmacy, Wallace plans to pursue a generalized pharmacy practice residency followed by a specialized infectious disease residency.  Wallace says, “my favorite undergraduate course in the biology curriculum at Campbell University was microbiology.  I was enthralled with learning about the various microorganisms and the effects which they have on the body.  Choosing to pursue infectious disease as a specialty was a no brainer, and after taking graduate coursework in immunology and pathophysiology at the School of Pharmacy, I know that I.D. is where my passion lies.  I look forward to being able to put clinical knowledge into practice in order to help patients achieve more favorable outcomes.  Pharmacy is a very rewarding career, and I can’t imagine doing anything else.”
Wallace is also an active member of the American Pharmacists Association – Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP), the South Carolina Pharmacy Association (SCPhA), the South Carolina Society of Health-System Pharmacists (SCSHP), and he serves Presbyterian College as an ambassador for the School of Pharmacy.
Additionally, he is one of three chairs for Operation Immunization, which is a patient care project sponsored by APhA-ASP. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Last of Freeport, Illinois, and the late Mr. and Mrs. James Ray Wallace, Senior, of Dillon, South Carolina.
He is a graduate of Dillon Christian School and is employed as an intern pharmacist at Walgreen’s.
