Wildcats Earn Wins Over Aynor

Both the Dillon Wildcats baseball and softball teams defeated the visiting Aynor Blue Jackets on Friday, March 22.

In softball action, the Lady Wildcats took down the Blue Jackets 8-5 with Dillon scoring three runs in the first off a home run from Darby Hamer, four runs in the second, and one in the third for an 8-0 lead. Aynor got their first run in the top of the fourth and rallied for three runs in the fifth to trail 8-4. They added their final run in the top of the seventh as the Wildcats claimed the 8-5 win.

Shaquailla German picked up the win on the mound for the Wildcats, pitching 4.3 innings for one hit, four runs, six walks, and seven outs. Darby Hamer earned the save, pitching 2.6 innings for one run and five outs.

Aynor’s Shelby Culler took the loss on the mound, pitching six innings against the Wildcats for eight hits, eight runs, seven earned runs, and six walks.

German went 2-for-2 with a home run and two RBIs for the Wildcats, and Hamer went 1-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs, while Tara Grimsley went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.

Dillon had eight hits and three errors. Aynor had one lone hit and two errors in the loss.

The Wildcats improved to 8-1 overall and remained undefeated at 4-0 in Region 8-2A. The Lady Wildcats were scheduled to be at Green Sea-Floyds on Monday and will be at Marion on Tuesday and at Mullins on Friday.

BASEBALL

In Wildcat baseball action, Dillon took down Aynor 6-1 behind three home runs.

Duncan Callahan picked up the win, pitching six innings for three hits, one run, one earned run, two walks, and 12 outs. Callahan has already struck out over 39 batters this season.

Austin Higgins, Omar McCollum, and Tripp Wallace each recorded home runs in the win, with Huggins picking up two RBIs. Kyle Britt hit a double for the Wildcats and also picked up two RBIs.

The Wildcats are now 4-2 in the regular season with a 3-1 record in Region 8-2A. The Wildcats will be on the road for the next two weeks, traveling to Marion on Tuesday, Mullins on Thursday, and Manning and Darlington next week.
