Paul Hayes

   Paul Patrick Hayes passed away February 8, 2013 at the Thorne Retirement Home in Lake View, SC.  He was born February 21, 1927 to the late Hugh Bliss Hayes and Grace Scott Hayes.  Visitation will be held Sunday, February 10 at Cooper Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday February 11 at First Baptist Church Dillon and burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery on Hwy 301 North in Dillon.
     He was a WWII US Navy veteran as a member of the 36th Naval Air Group based in San Diego, California and served aboard the USS Siboney CVE-112 in the South Pacific.  He was a Petty Officer and operations technician for the fighter squadron flying the F6F Hellcat Aircraft.
     He was an insurance claims adjuster and managed the James C. Greene Company in Florence, SC for many years.  He spent the last 25 years as a partner with Ed Harrell & Associates as a life and accident insurance agent before his retirement.
     He was predeceased by a son, Stephen Moody Hayes, a brother Nathan Hayes and sister Pat King and a great-grandson Henry McCormick.  He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Lorene Moody Hayes; brother-in-law, Elrid Matthew Moody of Port Royal, SC; and three sons:  Michael (Linda) Hayes of Niceville, Fla.; Ronald Hayes of Charleston; Donald (Cynthia) Hayes of Dillon.  Also surviving are brothers Vergil, Robert and Gene; sisters Judy and Lois; three grandsons Brad (Cindy) Hayes of Ft. Worth, Tx.; Andy (Lindy) Hayes of Savannah, Ga.; Charles Hayes of Charleston.; three granddaughters Carrie (John) McCormick of Mt. Pleasant; Tiffany (Patrick) Boone of Lugoff; Carlyn (Justin) White of Port Orange, Fla.; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
     The Hayes family extends their deepest appreciation for the care givers at The Thorne, Hospice of SC, McLeod Hospital, his doctors and nurses as well as his many friends and clergy.
     Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Dillon, SC.
