Dillon Wildcats Overpower Loris Lions 82-45

The Dillon Wildcats overpowered the Loris Lions 82-45 at home in Dillon on Monday night.

Dillon outscored Loris in every quarter, taking a 21-13 lead in the first quarter and going 20-13 in the second. The Wildcats kept up the pressure in the second half, outscoring Loris 23-11 in the third and 18-8 in the fourth for the win.

Breon Page led the Wildcats with a team-high 15 points, with John Caulder scoring 14, Jalik Bethea earning 12, and Olajuwan Fenton adding 11. Shaqui Cabbagestalk scored eight points for the Wildcats, Avery McCall and Maurice Williams each added five, and Jaquan Knowlin earned four, with Julius Saunders and Gerome McLeod each adding three and Anthony Blue and Sharif Myers each contributing two points in the win.

Loris was led by S. Jackson with a game-high 16 points; A. Wheeler, 12; Z. Faircloth, 6; D. Wedoman, 4; M. Soles, 2; K. Gore, 2; T. Johnson, 2; and T. Floyd added one point in the loss.

The Wildcats improved to 16-7 overall and remained tied for the Region 8-2A lead at 8-1 overall. Marion defeated Waccamaw 74-44 on Monday to to maintain their 8-1 region standing as well.

In this week’s South Carolina Basketball Coaches Association Class 2A boys basketball poll, Dillon was ranked ninth, with Mullins in tenth and Marion in seventh place. Lake Marion, Newberry, Keenan, Landrum, and Indian Land were ranked as the top five.

The Wildcats were scheduled to host Waccamaw on Wednesday night in the final game of the regular season. Marion was scheduled to host Mullins. If both teams earned wins Wednesday night, then Dillon and Marion will have to play a tiebreaker game this weekend at a neutral site. UPDATE: Dillon defeated Waccamaw 70-52 on Wednesday night and Marion defeated Mullins 63-53 to send Dillon and Marion to a tiebreaker game for the Region 8-2A title on Friday in Loris.
