Lady Wildcats Defeat Top-Ranked Mullins 64-57

Dillon’s Lady Wildcats defeated top-ranked Mullins 64-57 on Tuesday in Mullins, handing the Lady Auctioneers their first region loss of the season.

Mullins, which was voted the number one team in Class 2A in the latest South Carolina Basketball Coaches Association, is now tied 6-1 in the region with Dillon, which ranked tenth in that poll.

The Lady Wildcats took a 17-11 lead over Mullins in the first quarter on Tuesday, but the Auctioneers outscored Dillon 19-12 in the second to lead 30-29 at the half. Mullins held onto the lead with a 12-11 third,but the Wildcats rallied in the fourth to take control of the game, outscoring Mullins 24-15 for the win.

Yolanda Campbell led the Lady Wildcats with a team-high 18 points followed by Tyshanna Lester with 17, Dakerhia Samuel with 12, and Brianna Lee with 10. Khamele Manning added four points, Nakedra Page scored two, and Shymya Sowells earned one point in the win.

Mullins was led by Jaleah Lesane with a game-high 20 points, with Brantley and Godfrey each adding 10 and McDonald adding eight. Williams and Legette each added three points for the Lady Auctioneers and J. Wright scored two.

Both teams are now 6-1 in Region 8-2A. The Lady Wildcats improve to 13-5 overall, while Mullins is now 15-3. Both of the Lady Auctioneers other losses were at the hands of Latta’s Lady Vikings.

Dillon is scheduled to host Marion this Friday at 6:00 p.m. and will host Loris on Monday, February 4, before wrapping up the season at home against Waccamaw on Wednesday. Make plans to attend to support our local team!
