Lady Vikings Outshine Flashes 85-39

Latta’s Lady Vikings outpaced Johnsonville 85-39 on Tuesday night with five Vikings scoring in double digits.

Latta jumped out to a 20-7 lead in the first quarter and outscored Johnsonville 18-12 in the second for a 38-19 half-time lead. In the third, the Lady Vikings outpaced the Flashes 29-9 to lead 67-28 heading into the fourth, where they outscored Johnsonville 18-11 for the win.

Tianna Deberry led the Vikings with a game-high 20 points and Jessica Evans added 18 with Brittany Burgess scoring 14, TaKeria Legette earning 12 and Mallory Townsend adding 11 points in the win. Kierra Johnson scored six points for Latta and Maya Wright and Madelia Johnson each added two.

Johnsonville was led by Krystal Williams with a team-high 15 points with Kayla Ard and Madelyn Cole each adding six. Ansley Mace earned four points, Kaitlyn Gunner scored three, and Makayla Davis added two for the Flashes.

Latta improved to 12-2 overall and remained undefeated at 5-0 in Region 8A.

The Lady Vikings were also voted second in the state this week in Girls Class A basketball by the South Carolina Basketball Coaches Association. Timmonsville was ranked first, with Hemingway, St. Joseph’s, and Denmark-Olar rounding out the top five.

On Friday, Latta will be on the road to take on the Green Sea-Floyds Trojans, and on Tuesday, January 29, the Vikings will be back home to host Creek Bridge at 6:00 p.m. Make plans to attend to support our local teams
