The Latta Vikings picked up their second region win of the season at home on Friday night as they defeated the visiting Green Sea-Floyds Trojans 47-40.
The Vikings took a 12-5 lead in the first and outscored the Trojans 13-11 in the second for a 25-16 lead at the half. Latta held onto the lead with a 10-9 third quarter, and despite a 15-12 rally from the Trojans in the fourth, the Vikings hung on for the win.
Tyrell Sabb led Latta with a game-high 19 points with Travise Kinney and Ken’Che Page each adding 10 points in the win. Ty’Sean Burgess added seven points and Brandon Wilson earned one for the Vikings.
After struggling against Class AA schools in the early season, Latta now improves to 2-7 overall and 2-0 in Region 8-A.
Tonight, the Vikings will travel to take on Hannah-Pamplico at 6:00 p.m. But on Wednesday, Latta will be back home to host Dillon, followed by Lake View on Friday, January 17 and Johnsonville on Tuesday, January 22. All three home games begin at 6:00 p.m., so make plans to attend to support our local teams!
