Two Former DHS Football Players Arrested

Two former Dillon High School football players were arrested on Thursday for grand larceny after an incident that took place during a varsity basketball game on Monday, December 3, 2012.
During the boys’ game at the Dillon High School gym, seniors Tyreek Hayes, 17, and Pete Ingram, 18, went into visiting South Robeson’s locker room and stole cell phones, jewelry and clothes.  All stolen items have been recovered and returned to the victims.
The morning after the incident, the two individuals were expelled from Dillon High School and will be able to obtain their diploma through adult education.
“When these young men made that mistake, we immediately did what we were supposed to do on a school level,” said Dillon High School Principal Shawn Johnson.  “Again, I’m concerned about academics, but I’m concerned about life lessons as well.”
“It’s a tough situation because these are good young men, from good families, who made a mistake,” said Assistant Solicitor Shipp Daniel.  “They have the ability to earn their diploma, and we’ll make that a condition of whatever sentence they receive.  But we won’t tolerate this type of behavior, especially in our schools where our administration, faculty, staff and students are making great strides to improve.”
Both students were key contributors on this season’s state championship football team.  Hayes was the team’s top receiver, accounting for 29 receptions for 502 yards and six touchdowns.  Ingram, a defensive back and kick return specialist, had two interceptions on the season and an 87-yard punt return for a touchdown in the lower state championship game against Timberland.
Per school district policy, Hayes and Ingram are not allowed to attend any school functions for the remainder of the school year.
