Joe Moffett Inducted Into Miller High School Athletic Hall Of Fame

It was a trip down Memory Lane earlier this month for Joe Moffett of Dillon when he and his wife Helen traveled to Corpus Christi,  TX for his induction to The Miller High School Athletic Hall of Fame, along with six other former athletes of Miller High.
Joe played football for the Miller High Buccaneers  from 1953 through 1955.  He was a standout offensive lineman and earned All-District honors at center his junior and senior years.  
He played for two district championship teams   He also lettered 3 years  in baseball  at Miller High.
After graduating High School,  Joe earned a scholarship to play football for The Texas Christian Horned Frogs.  He played center for the Frogs for three years, and  was a member of the  Horned Frogs’ 1959 Cotton Bowl team that battled Air Force to a 0-0 tie.  His career with the Frogs also included a trip to The Bluebonnet Bowl.
Joe graduated TCU  as a Distinguished Military Graduate and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the Regular Army.  His years of service included three tours of duty in Vietnam as a helicopter pilot .
After returning to duty in the USA, Joe met and married Helen Brennecke    After several assignments in this country, including graduation from the Army Command and General Staff College,  he and Helen returned to Fayetteville, NC. And later took a position with Aramco Oil Company in Saudi Arabia.
In 1996, after returning from Saudi Arabia,  Joe and Helen moved to Dillon, the home of Helen’s sister, Alice Braddy.   They bought a house on Kiwanis Street in Dillon and have lived here since then.
Joe has served the Dillon community in many ways.  He is an active member of  Main Street United Methodist Church, The Dillon Lions Club, The Dillon County Voter Registration Board,   and other organizations.
He now has become one of more than 100 athletes of Corpus Christi’s Miller High School Athletic Hall of Fame.  Our congratulations go to Joe Moffett for his latest recognition and for his military and civilian service.
