Wreck Claims Life Of Latta Man (Updated Report, 10/26)

A Latta man was killed in a two-car collision on Wednesday morning. Coroner Donnie Grimsley identifies the man as Floyd Martin “Buddy” Altman. More details will be in Thursday’s issue.

A local man was killed in a two-vehicle collision on Wednesday morning, according to Lance Corporal Sonny Collins of the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The collision occurred at 7:20 a.m. on S.C. Highway 917, approximately 6 miles north of the town of Latta.
The victim, identified by Coroner Donnie Grimsley as 59-year-old Floyd Martin “Buddy” Altman, a paramedic, was traveling southbound on Highway 917 in a 1990 Chevrolet S-10 pick-up when he crossed the center line hitting a 2011 RAV 4 sport utility carrying a driver and a passenger that was traveling north, said Collins.
Both Altman and the people in the other vehicle were all wearing seatbelts. The people in the RAV 4 were taken to the hospital.
The driver of the RAV 4, Sandra Cook Roberts of Latta, a teacher at Creek Bridge High School, was seriously injured and remains hospitalized.
Collins said the crash remains under investigation. Collins said that no charges are expected to be filed.
Funeral services for Altman will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday at East Dillon Baptist Church with burial in Greenlawn Cemetery directed by Cooper Funeral Home. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
