The tragic day of the September 11, 2001 attacks were remembered at a special ceremony held Tuesday morning at the Dillon City-County Complex Veterans Monument.
Judge James E. Lockemy opened the ceremony with brief remarks followed by an invocation by Rev. Leo Chapman of Bethel AME Church.
Brothers, Randy and Donnie Grimsley, were the guest speakers. They spoke about their lives in public service as well as the public service rendered by members of their family.

[slide]Randy Grimsley said a lot of good people were lost that day. He talked about the first responders who ran into the Twin Towers trying to get people out of harm’s way. He said hundreds of first responders lost their lives that day. He also recognized the troops.
Donnie Grimsley said that all should take the time to thank their EMS, law enforcement officers, and troop members for their service.
The Justice Rangers, who placed the flags at Veterans Square, placed the memorial wreath.
Judge Lockemy reminded everyone that freedom is not free.
Rev. Michael Rouse of Main Street United Methodist Church gave the benediction.
