Jeremiah Montgomery Goodson, Jr. was born on October 25, 1979 in Marion, South Carolina and departed this life on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton, North Carolina. He was affectionately known to family and friends as “Chucky”. Jeremiah was a faithful, trusted and worthy young man. He was loving, kind, peaceful and dependable, even as a small child. Jeremiah was a great father, loving husband and son. Jeremiah loved people as God wanted him to.
Jeremiah accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age at United Pentecostal Church of Christ in Dillon, South Carolina. He later joined Cromartie Temple of Praise in Lumberton, North Carolina.
Jeremiah attended Rowland and Lumberton Schools in North Carolina as a young child. He played baseball, basketball, and football on recreation teams. He also played Junior League football at Lumberton Jr. High School and was chosen and performed on the All State Choir at the Civic Center in Lumberton, North Carolina. Jeremiah graduated from Dillon High School in 1998. In May 2011, he graduated from Bladen Community College (North Carolina) with an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice. He was also attending Fayetteville State to earn his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice and would have been graduating in December 2012.
Jeremiah was a School Resource Officer at Lumberton Sr. High School and mentor to many young people. He started a fund for kids: Dream Plenty…Conquer Success. He was employed by the City of Lumberton (Public Works Department) on November 29, 2000 and later transferred to the E.U.D. Unit. He joined the Lumberton Police Department on June 14, 2006, where he served faithfully until his departure. Gone, but never forgotten.
Jeremiah was united in holy matrimony to Lametria E. Hueston and together they raised two children, Jurnee Amiah and Tyrin Hueston, and their son Josiah Malachi arrived on July 25. Jeremiah was the son of Jerry and Bettie Goodson of Lumberton, NC. His sister, Isis A. Goodson, and brother, Joshua A. Goodson, both reside in Lumberton, NC. He was the grandson of Katie B. Goodson of Dillon, SC, the late Luther Palmer, Sr., the late Beulah Palmer, and the late Henry B. Goodson. He was the son-in-law of Bandy Codrington of Hobbsville, NC and the late Elgerine Codrington. His sister-in-law is Benita Hueston of Durham, NC. His aunts are: Dorothy Goodson of Dillon, SC; Madlene Gail Palmer Floyd of Maxton, NC, and Beulah Jane Palmer Miles of Dillon, SC. His uncles are: Henry Palmer, Joseph Palmer and Clarence Palmer of Dillon, SC; Lee Palmer of St. Paul, NC, John Palmer of Texas, and Isaac Palmer of Lumberton, NC.
Excerpt of a letter from Beverly Eaves Perdue, Governor of North Carolina: I was deeply saddened to learn about the passing of Master Police Office Jeremiah Montgomery Goodson, Jr., who died in the line of duty while serving the citizens of North Carolina. North Carolina is proud of the dedication of its law enforcement officers and of the men and women who take the call to serve and protect. They are among our best and brightest, and to lose one is a great loss to our state. Because Officer Goodson gave his life for the citizens of our great state, he will always hold a special place in the heart of North Carolina and his valor will never be forgotten.
Excerpt of a letter from James A. Anderson, Chancellor of Fayetteville State University: Upon examination of his sterling record as a senior student at Fayetteville State University (FSU), we celebrate with pride his academic performance and persistence. Officer Goodson started his matriculation at FSU in the fall of 2011 as a transfer student. He was scheduled to graduate in May 2013 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Criminal Justice. He clearly took his education seriously having earned an overall GPA of 3.857. Most recently during the Spring Semester, he ascended to the Chancellor’s list having earned a 4.0 GPA, again underscoring his commitment to excellence. In commemoration of his sterling academic performance, his standing as a FSU student with the anticipation of graduating in 2013, and upon the recommendation of the Faculty in the Criminal Justice Department, I am elated to inform you that Jeremiah Montgomery Goodson, Jr. will
receive the Bachelor’s of Science in Criminal Justice at the upcoming May Commencement Exercises in memoriam. We join you in celebrating the life of Office Jeremiah Montgomery Goodson, Jr.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at Lumberton High School Auditorium, Lumberton, NC at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Syvalla Washington was the Eulogist.
