Dillon’s Belles Eliminated in 2012 Dixie Belles World Series

Dillon’s Dixie Belles faced tough competition at the 2012 Dixie Belles World Series this weekend and were eliminated by Louisiana on Sunday night.

The Belles opened the series against Opp, Alabama, who claimed a 7-2 win over Dillon on Saturday morning. Also on Saturday, West Jasper, Mississippi, defeated Lexington, Tennessee, 6-1; South Hill, Virginia got a 1-0 win over JPRD Westbank, Louisiana; Burgaw, North Carolina picked up a 15-9 win over Red River, Texas; and West Pasco, Florida, defeated Seminole County, Georgia, 6-2.

On Sunday morning, Dillon went up against Georgia and pulled out a 12-2 win to eliminate Seminole County, and Louisiana eliminated Tennessee 10-4 to stay alive in the tournament. In the winners’ bracket, Virginia defeated Mississippi 11-3; North Carolina defeated Alabama 8-5; and Florida defeated host team Powhatan National, Virginia, 8-1.

On Sunday evening, six teams faced elimination, and Dillon’s Belles were one of the unlucky three who were sent home as Louisiana shut out South Carolina 7-0. Texas took out Mississippi 4-3, and Powhatan, Virginia, eliminated Alabama 3-1.

In the only winners’ bracket matchup on Sunday, North Carolina defeated Florida 8-7.

On Monday, defending champs Burgaw, NC, were scheduled to face South Hill, VA, at 8:30 p.m. In the losers’ bracket, Florida was scheduled to take on Louisiana, with the winner facing the winner of the NC/VA game on Tuesday. Texas will face Powhatan, VA, with the winner of that match facing the loser of the NC/VA game. The World Series continues through Wednesday.
