First Steps Holds Training, Seminar

Dillon County First Steps sponsored training sessions and a seminar recently.
The Dillon County First Steps Partnership Board provided six (6) required certification training sessions for child care providers this year to ensure that every professional is qualified to work with children 0-5 years of age. Childcare providers were awarded gifts at the last training. At the conclusion of each training certificates were awarded to each individual whom participated. Dillon County First Steps training session were as followed: -Thursday, January 12, 2012- Trainer: Ms. Jennifer Reed, Area: Curriculum, Topic: “Part 1- Blocks in my Head”

-Thursday, March 1, 2012- Trainer Ms. Mamie Bostic, Area: Curriculum, Topic: “Part 2- Blocks in my Head”
-Thursday, March 22, 2012- Trainer Ms. Jennifer Reed, Area: Child Growth and Development
-Thursday, April 19, 2012- Trainer Ms. Jennifer Reed, Area: Child Growth and Development
-Thursday, May 3, 2012 Trainer: Ms. Cynthia Pernell, Area: 1.0 Hours Blood-Borne Pathogens, 1.5 Hours Health & Safety

Dillon County First Steps sponsored a seminar on fathers and retired educators at the Dillon School District Four’s Staff development room located at 801 South 9th Avenue, Dillon on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.
Our goal and purpose of the seminar is to gather information to see how fathers and retired educators can help our young citizen 0-5 years of age get healthy and ready to succeed.
Our guest speaker was Rev. Dr. Edward Holmes. Dr. Holmes key points were as follows:
Fathers
-Be more involved in your child’s education
-Attend school activities that your child is involved in
-Have a good relationship with your child
-Teach your child the way of life
-Retired Educators
-Mentoring for our young citizens
-More involved with our young children in church
-Get involved in community organizations that focus on our young citizens
Dr. Alice P. Grice, Assistant Superintendent for Student Services, served as moderator. Dr. Grice shared some great facts that show fathers and retired educators are a very important factors in a child’s life. Dr. Daniel W. Blue, Jr., Executive Director, stated, “We have all had another successful seminar. It is very important that our fathers and retired educators know what they need to do to help get their children healthy and ready to start kindergarten.”
