Playoff Updates: Lake View Edges East Clarendon, Vikings and Lady Gators Fall

Both Dillon teams, Latta’s Lady Vikings, and the Lake View Wild Gators claimed their district titles last night, but the Lady Gators fell to East Clarendon, and Latta fell to Bamberg-Ehrhardt after forcing game two.

BASEBALL

Lake View edged East Clarendon 3-2 to claim the District VII championship. Nate Lewis picked up the win, allowing just four hits in seven innings. Darius Leonard had two hits and a home run in the win, and Chris Ford and Brody Smith each got hits.

Lake View will be at Bamberg-Ehrhardt on Saturday for the first round of the Lower State Tournament.

Dillon defeated Academic Magnet 12-2 in five innings. Daniel Huggins picked up the win, and five players had hits. No other details were reported.

Dillon will host Bishop England on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. in round one of the Class AA Lower State Tournament.

Latta swept Bamberg-Ehrhardt 8-0 to force a second game, but the Red Raiders edged Latta 7-6 in game two. Travis Power picked up the win in game one, allowing just four hits, while John Kever Love had a two-run single and Ben Scott put out 10 for the Vikings.

In game two, Latta led 6-2 until the bottom of the seventh when a five run rally from the Red Raiders gave them the win. Bamberg-Ehrhardt’s Sumner Cooler got an RBI single, the Raiders scored two runs off a throwing error, and another off an errant throw from the catcher to tie things up. Bamberg-Ehrhardt’s Garrett Zeigler hit a walk-off single to give the the Red Raiders the win.

SOFTBALL

Lake View’s Lady Gators fell 5-3 to East Clarendon. The Lady Wolverines led most of the game, keeping Lake View off the scoreboard until they earned two runs in the top of the sixth to trail 3-2. East Clarendon added two in the bottom of the sixth to retain the lead, but the Lady Gators could only add one more run in top of the seventh for the 5-3 loss. Kayla Sanderson took the loss, and East Clarendon held Lake View to just three hits, one each from Chelsea Spivey, Ashley Rogers, and K.D. Cox.

East Clarendon will host Green Sea-Floyds on Saturday.

Latta’s Lady Vikings swept Branchville 8-0 to claim the District V title. Anna Rogers picked up the win, allowing just three hits in seven innings while striking out 12. Dori Webster and Dallas Sweat had two hits each in the win.

Latta will host Johnsonville on Friday at 5:30 p.m.

After battling to a 2-1 win in their first encounter, Dillon’s Lady Wildcats picked up a 10-1 win over Swansea last night to claim the District title. Shaquailla German pitched the complete game, striking out 11 and allowing just one hit in the win. Da’Kerhia Samuels had three hits, two doubles, and two RBI for Dillon, with Shayna Covington getting three hits and Ma’Kayla Drake getting two hits with two RBI.

Dillon will host Andrews on Saturday at 6:00 p.m.
