DHS JROTC Competes

On the 17th of March, the Dillon High School Wildcat JROTC Battalion’s Drill Teams and Color Guard traveled to Hoke County High School in Raeford, North Carolina for their third out-of-state Drill and Color Guard Competition in the past five years.
There were twelve teams competing in this competition from North Carolina, and South Carolina.
This mixture of teams provided for a competitive level that was very high because there were a couple of teams competing that were on track to compete in the Annual National Drill Competition held in Daytona, Florida during the month of May. The events available were:
1. Color Guard
2. Individual Regulation Drill with Rifle
3. Squad Regulation Drill without Rifles
4. Squad Regulation Drill with Rifles
5. Platoon Regulation Drill without Rifles
6. Platoon Regulation Drill with Rifles
7. Individual Exhibition (Fancy) Drill with Rifle
8. Squad Exhibition (Fancy) Drill without Rifles
9. Squad Exhibition (Fancy) Drill with Rifles
10. Platoon Exhibition (Fancy) Drill without Rifles
11. Platoon Exhibition (Fancy) Drill with Rifles
12. Individual Knockout.
The Wildcats competed in events numbered 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 12.
All of the fourteen Wildcats that participated in these events competed very hard and to the upmost of their ability.
They represented Dillon High School very well and left there with a sense of accomplishment because the Wildcats’ Squad Exhibition (Fancy) Drill Team with Rifles took first place in this event. Cadet Second Lieutenant David Thompson led his team of Cadet Sergeants Joseph Perez, Antwan Charles, Tyquan Jones, and Austin Green to first place.
Cadet Private Geonary Gillespie took first place in the Individual Regulation Drill with Rifle while Cadet Second Lieutenant David Thompson took first place in the Individual Exhibition (Fancy) Drill with Rifle event.
Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Ranbrien Gray, Cadet FirstLieutenant Randarien Gray, Cadet Second Lieutenant David Thompson, Cadet Sergeants Joseph Perez, Antwan Charles, Tyquan Jones led by Cadet Private Geonary Gillespie, the Squad Regulation Drill Team with Rifles took first place in this event.
The Wildcats’ Squad Exhibition (Fancy) Drill Team without Rifles took second place in this event while being led by Cadet Sergeant Euryssa Kelly.

Her team members were as follows Cadet Corporal Bonnie Fields, Cadet Sergeant Shea Carmichael, Cadet Sergeants Xzavier Williams, Joseph Perez, Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Ranbrien Gray, and Cadet First Lieutenant Randarien Gray. Congratulations to the Dillon High School Wildcat JROTC Battalion as well as SFC (Retired) Randy Gray, Army Instructor and Drill Teams Coach.
