Lady Warriors Defeat Bobcats, Fall to Stallions, Titans

Dillon Christian School’s Lady Warriors picked up a win against the Carolina Academy Bobcats this week but fell to Williamsburg Academy and Trinity Collegiate in girls basketball action.

On Tuesday, January 31, the Lady Warriors traveled to Lake City where they edged Carolina Academy 25-21.

The Lady Warriors got off to an early 8-4 lead in the first, but Carolina outscored Dillon 5-2 in the second to cut the Warrior lead to 10-9 at the half. The Warriors returned to the court in the third to outscore Carolina 9-6, with both teams adding six points in the fourth to give Dillon Christian the win.

Lauren Lee led the Lady Warriors with a game-high 15 points, including two three-pointers, and grabbed five rebounds with four steals, three blocks, and one assist. Amanda Bass added six points, going 2-for-4 on free throws with five steals, three rebounds, and three assists.

Kathryn Brown went 2-for-2 on free throws and Emily Prutzman sank a two-pointer for two points each. Brown picked up 13 rebounds with two blocks while Prutzman picked up a team-high 19 rebounds with one steal. Kylee Sullivan made four steals, two assists, and one block in the win, and Courtney Miller grabbed two rebounds with one steal.

Carolina Academy was led by Kylie Floyd with eight points and Brittany Warren with six. Rachel Cook added three, and Haven Brown and Courtney Godwin each added two.

On Thursday, February 2, the Lady Warriors traveled to Williamsburg to take on the Williamsburg Academy Stallions in a make-up game from January 24.

Williamsburg edged DCS in the first half, outscoring the Lady Warriors 15-13 and 8-6 to lead 23-19 at the half. But the Stallions stampeded in the third to add 29 points while the Warriors could only manage six. DCS would outscore Williamsburg 11-4 in the fourth, but it wasn’t enough to close the 20-point gap as the Stallions claimed the win, 56-36.

Lee again led Dillon Christian with a team-high 15 points, getting 4-of-6 free throws and scoring one three-pointer with six steals, three rebounds, and two assists. Bass earned seven points with one three-pointer and 2-of-2 free throws, grabbing one rebound with two assists and one steal.

Kylee Sullivan and Emily Prutzman each added six points with three two-pointers each. Sullivan grabbed nine rebounds with three assists, and Prutzman picked up 12 rebounds with three steals and one assist. Kathryn Brown sank one two-pointer and grabbed 11 rebounds with two blocks and one assist, and Courtney Miller grabbed five rebounds for the Lady Warriors.

On Friday, the Lady Warriors played their final road game of the regular season as they traveled to Darlington to face Trinity Collegiate’s Lady Titans.

The Titans edged the Warriors 7-5 in the first quarter but got a big lead in the second as they outscored Dillon Christian 14-4 to lead 21-9 at the half. The Titans went on to outscore the Warriors 9-6 and 8-2 in the remaining periods for a 38-17 win.

Lee led Dillon Christian with eight points in the loss. She sank two three-pointers and went 2-for-5 in free throws with one rebound and two steals. Bass added three points with four steals and one rebound.

Brown, Sullivan, and Prutzman each sank two-pointers for two points each. Prutzman grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds, while Brown picked up eight rebounds with three assists and one block. and Sullivan made one steal.

The Lady Warriors were 3-19 overall and 2-11 in the league headed into their final game of the regular season on Monday, when they were scheduled to host Pee Dee Academy.

Emily Prutzman was on track to break a SCISA record with 257 rebounds headed into the game. Look for results and playoff information in Thursday’s issue of THE DILLON HERALD!
