Contributed Article
The S.C. Fire Academy began in January 2011 thru December 31, 2012 offering a special challenge program to allow firefighters throughout the state to take advantage of prior training and years of experience that may allow them to challenge the following IFSAC endorsed coursed and the 1152 course, without taking the course.
The courses are 1152, Fundamentals of firefighting, 1153 NFPA Firefighter I, NFPA Firefighter II, and 2100 NFPA Fire Officer I The Fire School Advisory Committee empowered by the South Carolina Firefighters Association, along with the S.C. Fire Academy, worked together to ensure that the minimum training requirements for firefighters in South Carolina will meet NFPA 1001, Firefighter Professional Qualification Standards.
It was the general consensus that prior training and years of experience should be considered as part of this process. So for the period of January 1,2011 thru December 31, 2012, the special challenge process will be in effect.
This is a great opportunity to many of our firefighters in Dillon County to challenge the course, take the exam and get the certification.
