Dr. Carl Millard Sanders, Jr.

Dr. Carl Millard Sanders, Jr., 85, prominent Dillon citizen passed away December 6, 2011. Funeral services will be held 3:00 P.M. Thursday December 8, 2011 at Main Street United Methodist Church in Dillon, SC with burial in Cedardale Cemetery in Mullins, SC, directed by Kannaday Funeral Home in Dillon. Visitation will be from 2:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. in Asbury Hall in the Church prior to the service.
Dr. Carl M. Sanders, Jr. was the son of the late Dr. Carl M. Sanders, Sr. and Metha Schnaidt Sanders, born November 30, 1926.
He is survived by his loving wife, Miriam Kinon Lecholop Sanders, son Gary Tod Sanders, Sr. (Nancy) of Dillon, daughter Sharon Sanders Davis of Jackson, TN, grandchildren Angela Sanders Evans (Andy) of Lexington, SC, Gary Tod Sanders, Jr. (Brittany) of Evergreen, SC, Kelly Flynn Sanders of Clemson, SC, three great grandchildren, stepsons, Michael Lecholop (Ann) of Charleston, SC, and Stephen Lecholop (Carol) of San Antonio, TX. He was predeceased in death by his sister, Dr. Catherine Sanders, and brothers, Dr. Frank Sanders and Fredrick Sanders.
After graduating from Mullins High School, he joined the Navy. He later attended Clemson University and then entered the Southern College of Optometry in 1946. He started working in Dillon as an optometist in 1949 and was a lifetime member of the Optometric Association.
Dr. Sanders was loyal, supportive member of the Main Street United Methodist Church where he served in many positions. He was a member of the Rotary Club for over sixty years. For many years he was very active and was a mutiple Paul Harris Fellow. Dr. Sanders was a member of Mackey Lodge #77 for 60 years and was a Master Mason. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 32. Dr. Sanders enjoyed fishing, hunting, and golfing. All who knew this gentleman loved him.
