Smith to Play in Shrine Bowl, Offense-Defense All-American

Dillon wide receiver Kwinton Smith has been been selected to play in the upcoming Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas and the Offense-Defense All-American Bowl.

Smith, who has already committed to the University of South Carolina, caught 34 passes for 564 yards and 10 touchdowns this season. He also returned two punts for two touchdowns.

Smith was among many players chosen to play for the South Carolina team in the 75th Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas game on Saturday, December 17, at the Gibbs Stadium at Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

The Shrine Bowl pits the best players from South Carolina against the best players from North Carolina in a yearly competition. South Carolina leads the series 41-28-4 and won the 2010 game 42-10.

The game will be televised live on ESPN3 with the kickoff scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Tickets are available online at shrine-bowl.com with the proceeds going to benefit the Greenville, South Carolina, Unit Shriners Hospital for Children and 21 other Shriners hospitals around the United States.

Smith was also chosen to play in the fifth annual Offense-Defense All-American Bowl at the Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Texas on Saturday, December 31.

The O-D All-American showcases some of the best high school talent and its inaugural Bowl class from 2007 saw six players drafted in the first two rounds of the 2010 NFL Draft. The current Carolina Panthers starting quarterback and first pick of the NFL draft, Cam Newton, was the first MVP of the series.

The Offense-Defense Bowl pits the East against the West, with the East leading the series 3-1. The Bowl has its headquarters in Myrtle Beach and has been held in Myrtle Beach the past two seasons.
