Gentry Perlie Stevens

Asheville, NC – Gentry Perlie Stevens, 89, died in the Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville, NC, October 23, 2011. Funeral srvices will be held 3:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at the Kannaday Funeral Home Chapel in Dillon, SC with burial in Greenlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:30 to 3:00 P.M. before the service.

Mr. Stevens was born June 20, 1922 in Dillon, SC the son of the late Roberta Squires and Perlie Mace Stevens. He was married for fifty six years to the late Kathryn Hasty Stevens. They were married just three months before Pearl Harbor was bombed when he left for five years with the 2756 Engineer Combat Battalion as a Staff Sargent handling radio communications. He fought World War II in North Africa, Sicily, Rome-Arno, Rhineland, and Central Europe. He was awarded the Eamet Campaign Metal with Five Bronze Stars, the American Defense Service Metal, and Good Conduct Metal. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dillon, SC. He retired as a Television Engineer with NBC in Washington, DC after thirty five years.

Mr. Stevens is survived by his daughter Linda K. (Raymond) Stadnick of Brevard, NC; sister, Joyce (Biven) Long of Latta, SC; brother, Joe B. (Marguerite) Stevens of Orlando, FL; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother, Charles E. Stevens and sister, Mildred S. Minshew Snyder.
