Bears Defeat Latta Vikings 19-13 in Overtime

It was a tough night for the Latta Vikings as they battled the Carvers Bay Bears for a 19-13 loss in overtime at home on Friday.

Carvers Bay started things off with Rayshod Pittman scoring on a 16-yard pass from Rollins Grier. Shawn Lawrence got the kick to put Carvers Bay up 7-0 with just six seconds left in the first quarter.

In the second, Latta tied things up with a two-yard run from Darius Jones and a successful kick from Chase Ray. But Carvers Bay would again take the lead with a touchdown from Shaquan Durand on a six-yard pass from Grier. The kick failed, leaving the score 13-7 heading into half time.

Latta managed to tie things up in the third on a 25-yard fumble return. The pass failed to leave the score 13-13.

Neither team could make it into the end zone in the fourth, forcing the game into overtime, where the Bears’ Hakeem Hampton secured victory for Carvers Bay with an interception in the end zone scoring on a one-yard run.

For Carvers Bay, Hampton picked up 82 yards rushing on nine possessions, and Devin Cuttino got 43 yards on 21 carries. Rollins Grier was three for six passing for 40 yards and two touchdowns.

Carvers Bay improves to 2-3 overall and picks up their first Region 8A win, while Latta slips to 0-5.

Latta will be traveling on Friday, September 23, to take on the Green Sea-Floyds Trojans at 7:30 p.m. The Trojans are fresh off a loss to Lake View, and are now 2-3. Both teams will be looking for their first region win.
