Fire Department Wins Competition

Saturday, September 10th was a day in history for Northwoods Fire Department in Lumberton, N.C., but it was also memorable for the Station Nine Fire Department in Oak Grove.
A memorial service was held for the victims of 9/11 at the Northwoods Fire Department.
In attendance was a very special guest speaker who was a firefighter from New York who was on duty on that fateful day.
The memorial service was followed by a day of fun, food and celebration.
There were over 150 people registered for the various daily events.
The biggest event was the firefighter competition. As firefighters competed in seven different events, the friends, family and onlookers cheered them on.
The events participated in were water barrel fight, dummy drags, midnight alarm, blindfolded firefighters filling a large tub with water, hydrant hook up, command post and a human firefighter chain passing buckets of water up a ladder to fill a 55 gallon barrel.
Friends and family had a great deal of cheering to do especially when Chief Larry Cox and Station Nine members competed against Northwoods Fire Dept. whose fire chief is Larry’s son, Eddie Cox and members of this team included his other son, Larry Cox, Jr., and daughters-in-law, Aprill Cox and Allison Cox.
Everyone had a great time. Station Nine won first place in five of the seven events, and also won the overall trophy.
Station Nine members would like to thank Northwoods Fire Department, Chief Eddie Cox and all their members for the invitation and their overwhelming hospitality.
The Smyrna Fire Department won the Best Sportsman Trophy.
The sportsmanship and fellowship was amazing. The Oak Grove Fire Department would also like to thank the judges, EMS personnel, and all others who helped with this event. It was certainly a day of fun, games and fellowship, and Station Nine members are looking forward to next year..
