ETV To Commemorate 9/11

This September, ETV will commemorate the September 11 attacks with an engaging series of new and encore programs and exclusive Web content.

On Wednesday, Sept. 7, ETV Upstate will launch a Web feature entitled “Eyewitness to 9/11: An Upstate Story.” The 20-minute-long online program spotlights Gaffney-native Father Lyndon Harris who was the Rector of the St. Paul Episcopal Cathedral that is located directly across the street from where the World Trade Center Towers once stood.

In a somber soliloquy, Harris stirringly recounts the events of September 11 and the days that followed. Amid photos contrasting the devastation at Ground Zero and those of compassionate first responders and community volunteers, Harris unapologetically recalls the emotional vulnerability he experienced as he dealt with feelings of anger, pain and forgiveness.

The Web-based program can be seen by visiting www.scetv.org.

Then, on Friday, Sept. 9 at noon, ETV Radio’s Walter Edgar’s Journal hosts “Eyewitness to 9/11,” which also features Harris. The priest and Edgar discuss the extraordinary ministry begun at St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral on Sept. 12 and his current work with Gardens of Forgiveness, a global post-9/11 initiative focused on promoting forgiveness. The pair also discusses Eyewitnesses to 9/11: From Tragedy to Transformation, an exhibition at the Cherokee County History and Arts Museum. The exhibit which closes on September 17, brings together artifacts, art and photos from St. Paul’s to tell the story.

On Sunday, September 11 at 5 p.m., For the Love of Their Brother airs. This emotionally compelling program is the story of the Siller family dealing with the death of their brother, Stephen Siller, a firefighter who heroically risked his life and died on 9/11.

At 5:30 p.m., ETV presents The Power of Forgiveness. This hour-long program is a critically-acclaimed documentary featuring a candid examination of the fertile ground of anger and grief that can engender the inability to forgive as well as the ability of forgiveness to transcend anger, grief and resentment.

ETV will also air other national programs that recognize the 10th anniversary of 9/11.

In the week leading up to September 11, Frontline: Top Secret America, by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Dana Priest, will make its debut Tuesday, Sep. 6 at 9 p.m. This powerful film explores the largely hidden side of America’s multibillion-dollar “War on Terror.” Priest examines how the war has reshaped the country and whether it has made us any safer. An encore presentation airs on Sept. 11 at 11:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, Sept. 7 at 9 p.m., NOVA: Engineering Ground Zero airs. This hour-long broadcast highlights the five-year construction of the Freedom Tower and the World Trade Center Memorial.
