Latta Vikings Fall to Waccamaw 54-21

It was a disappointing start to the season for the Vikings as they took a 54-21 loss to the Waccamaw Warriors on Friday, August 19.

Waccamaw’s Daniel Poinsette ran 114 yards on 14 carries with three touchdowns and Jalen Simmons added two more rushing scores in the win.

Latta held their own throughout the first half, as even Waccamaw coach Tyronne Davis acknowledged.

“The kids played very hard,” he said. “The first half was a very close game.”

But the Warriors gained momentum in the second half that carried them to the win.
Complete game stats were not available at press time.

While the Vikings may have started the season with a loss, their hopes for the season shouldn’t be dashed too quickly. With several games to go before conference play begins, the Vikings still have plenty of time to improve.

Next up, Latta will host East Clarendon in another non-conference game. The Region 7A Wolverines will be kicking off their season against the Vikings after finishing with a 4-6 record last season.

Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. in Latta on Friday, August 26. Be sure to come out and support our local team!
